National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management (NIFTEM), is a brand name in the field of food processing industry. Located at Sonepat, Haryana and spread over 100 acres of land, this institute is a centre of excellence and an apex world-class centre of global standards in the area of food technology and management.
The institute was the outcome of the persistent demand of the food industry to have an apex body as a “One Stop Solution Provider” for the various problems of the sector. Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Government of India set up this institute with an initial investment of Rs. 500 crore (US $100 million).
It meets the requirements of various stakeholders such as entrepreneurs, industries, exporters, policymakers, government and existing institutions. NIFTEM being an apex institution under Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) has developed strong bonding with industries.
As centre of excellence, the Institute offers B.Tech. M.Tech. and Ph.D. degree programmes in Food Technology and Management and at the same time taking up initiatives for research and extension activities.
Research and Development:
The institute has a ‘Research Cell’ having the following priority areas of research. Novel food processing technologies
- Nutraceutical and health foods.
- Nano-Science in food preservation and food quality.
- Role of microorganisms in food chain in transfer of antibiotic resistance.
- Study of microbiological status of food in different parts of the country (to be developed as network project).
- Basic bioscience underpinning health.
- Food waste and by-product utilization.
Ranking and Recognition:
In the prestigious and widely acclaimed educational ranking of Indian Institutional Ranking Framework (IIRF- 2021), NBRC at 13th Rank in IIRF Deemed University Ranking 2021.
